LE Designated Marksman 

This five-day course for law enforcement personnel provides a solid instructional foundation for individuals with little or no training with a scoped weapon. The course takes into consideration the needs of a law enforcement sniper but is also well suited for any military unit that is looking to increase surgical long-range capabilities. LE Designated Marksman curriculum is broken down in easy-to-understand sections that build on each other to provide students with a well-defined understanding of scoped rifle use that can be applied to designated marksman assignments.

• Ballistics of the 5.56 cartridge
• Use of the optical sight as well as iron sights
• Basic manipulations of the carbine
• Team communications
• Unusual shooting positions in urban environments
• Movement (forward and lateral)
• Close-contact shooting
• Shooting from around vehicles
• Shooting from barricades
• Night shoot using the carbine at various distances
• Transitions day and night
• Deploying from vehicles with the carbine
• Engaging small critical threat targets under time

Gear

• Duty gear
• Duty rifle/carbine with sling system and three 30 round magazines
• Duty pistol with three magazines
• Soft body armor
• Flashlight
• Firearm-mounted light (preferred) for carbine
• Magazine pouches for the carbine magazines
• Eye protection (including clear lenses)
• Ear protection
• Clothing appropriate for climate and conditions
• A water bottle or other hydration system

Prerequisites

Active Law Enforcement/Military only Prior carbine/rifle training required.

Ammunition Requirements

• 1,200 rounds of carbine ball ammunition
• 300 rounds of pistol ball ammunition
