Celebrating 20 Years of TDI’s Humanitarian Impact
For two decades, The Development Initiative Ltd (TDI) has worked in several countries across Africa and the Middle East recovering from conflict to restore safety, stability, and the foundation for progress. What began as a small team dedicated to mine action has grown into a global humanitarian organization that supports governments, international agencies, and local partners across some of the world’s most complex environments. This year, we recognize 20 years of serving that mission.
TDI’s focus has always been clear. Every operation starts with a simple objective to identify explosive hazards, remove the threat, and return land and infrastructure to the people who depend on it. The scale and urgency of this work are profound. Mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices can halt reconstruction, limit access to essential services, and prevent entire communities from returning home. Clearing these hazards is often the first step toward recovery.
Founded by Hugh Morris, TDI grew from a small operation in southern Africa into an organization of hundreds of trained professionals who bring discipline, skill, and humanitarian purpose to every mission. Over the past twenty years, teams have completed hundreds of clearance and recovery projects, working closely with communities to restore land that supports agriculture, construction, commerce, and daily life. “Our work restores the possibility of normalcy,” said Morris. “Clearing explosive hazards allows families to return, infrastructure to be repaired, and economies to move forward again. It is life-saving work with long-term impact.”
When TDI joined Constellis, the mission remained the same while the resources expanded. The partnership brought added logistical support, training, and operational infrastructure. What did not change was the commitment to precise field execution, safety, and humanitarian responsibility. Together, Constellis and TDI support critical recovery efforts across regions affected by conflict, disaster, and instability.
“TDI reflects the values that guide our organization,” said Terry Ryan, CEO of Constellis. “Courage, dedication, and the belief that safety and stability make communities stronger. Their work has protected lives and created conditions for growth. This milestone honors their legacy of service.”
Today, TDI’s capabilities extend through mine action, explosive ordnance disposal, weapons and ammunition management, training, and humanitarian support. The organization remains agile, deployable, and ready to respond where needs are urgent and environments are challenging.
The mission is ongoing. Conflicts evolve. Recovery landscapes shift. Communities continue to work through the process of rebuilding. TDI remains steady in that work — committed to restoring safe ground and supporting resilience in every region it serves.
As we recognize twenty years of progress, we honor the people who conduct this mission each day. Technicians, medics, logisticians, and local partners work under pressure and in difficult conditions to protect others. Their commitment defines TDI’s legacy and its future.
Twenty years of clearing the way. Twenty years of supporting stability and renewal. And many more ahead, guided by purpose and strengthened by the mission.
One mission. One Constellis. Dedicated to clearing the way for business and people.
