United States (Security threat level – 2): At approximately 0000 local time (0400 UTC) on 5 June 2022, a shooting occurred in the Queen Village neighborhood near Philadelphia’s city center. At least three people were killed and 11 were injured in the shooting. Police officers reported finding two firearms at the scene of the shooting. At this time, no suspects have been arrested.


Bangladesh (Security threat level – 4): On 4 June 2022, a large fire occurred at a shipping container depot in the Sitakunda administration unit north of the southern port city of Chattogram (Chittagong). A large explosion occurred after firefighters attempted to contain the blaze, causing flames and debris to engulf the area. At least 41 people have been killed and hundreds of others have been injured. According to local officials, dozens of people remain missing. Meanwhile, emergency response personnel are continuing efforts to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

China (Security threat level – 3): Beijing authorities announced that they are lifting coronavirus-related restrictions on indoor dining and public transportation – including buses, subways and taxis — as of 6 June 2022. Coronavirus protocols will, however, continue to be enforced in the Fengtai and Changping districts. Residents will be required to present a negative PCR test taken within the previous 72 hours to enter government buildings and public transportation terminals. Additionally, residents will be allowed to return to their places of employment and are no longer required to work from home.

China (Security threat level – 3): On 4 June 2022, a D2809 high-speed passenger train derailed and crashed into the main platform of Rongjiang Station in Guizhou province. According to local authorities, the derailment occurred as the train approached the station at a high speed and struck debris from a landslide that was covering the tracks. Local railway services have been suspended as emergency response teams work to clear the debris from the crash. At least one person was killed and another seven were injured as a result of the derailment.

North Korea / South Korea (Security threat levels – 3 / 2): South Korean military officials report that North Korea launched eight ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan on 5 June 2022. The missiles – launched from four different locations, including from the Sunan area of the North Korean capital Pyongyang — flew approximately 110-670 km (70-420 mi) to the east before landing in the Sea of Japan. The missile launch follows the 3 June completion of the first large-scale U.S.-South Korean naval exercise in more than four years. There were no reports of damage to maritime vessels or casualties connected to the missile launches.


France (Security threat level – 3): On 5 June 2022, heavy rainfall and hailstorms caused significant damage throughout western France, including in the capital Paris. Authorities stated that more than 65 departments were affected by the heavy rainfall and hailstorms, and approximately 2,400 firefighters were deployed to respond to calls related to the severe weather. Numerous bridges, roads and buildings sustained significant damage, and more than 15,000 people experienced power outages throughout France. Additionally, at least one person has been killed and 15 others injured. In Paris, Orly Airport (LFPO/ORY) temporarily suspended operations and airport officials at Charles De Gaulle Airport (LFPG/CDG) delayed numerous flights due to the effects of the storms.

Greece (Security threat level – 2): On 4 June 2022, Greek authorities evacuated thousands of residents of the southern suburbs of Voula and Glyfada in the capital Athens after a wildfire spread from the nearby Hymettus mountain due to high winds. Approximately 280 firefighters, six aircraft and four helicopters were deployed with water tanks to contain the blaze. Local reports indicate that at least 20 houses and numerous power lines were destroyed in the area. The EU is expected to deploy additional resources to help contain the blaze.

Slovakia (Security threat level – 2): On 4 June 2022, a passenger train crashed into a stopped passenger train near the town of Vrutky, located approximately 170 km (100 mi) northeast of the capital Bratislava. According to local authorities, a total of 74 passengers were injured in the crash. Officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.


Nigeria (Security threat level – 5) : On 5 June 2022, unidentified gunmen attacked a church in the town of Owo in the southwestern Ondo state. According to local officials, several gunmen fired on worshippers and detonated explosives inside the church. At least 50 people were killed and dozens of others were injured in the assault. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.


Hungary (Security threat level – 2): On 3 June 2022, the U.S. Embassy in Budapest issued a Demonstration Alert ahead of protests planned for 4 June, which reads in part as follows: “The U.S. Embassy would like to inform you of the following demonstrations taking place on Saturday, June 4:

“12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

“As many as 200 people are expected to gather at the Batthyány Eternal Flame on the anniversary the signing of the Treaty of Trianon. The group will proceed through Szabadság tér to Vértanuktere, then back to the Batthyány Eternal Flame.

“4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

“A group of approximately 500 supporters of Mi Hazánk (the “My Homeland” Movement) will gather in front of the Embassy of Ukraine, Istenhegyiút 101. They will march through Költo utca to Diána utca to the Temple of Szent László.”
