Handgun 1 (Basic Handgun)
This is a 2-Day course is for the individual who is unfamiliar with firearms procedures or who needs to develop safe firearm-handling skills and a solid foundation of basic shooting skills. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of shooting and how they apply to accuracy. Through demonstration and practice, participants will learn the movement for drawing the firearm from the holster to presentation. Students will also learn how to identify types of malfunctions and take the logical steps to efficiently correct them.

This course will inform the concerned citizen on methods of protecting their home and family. Students will receive classroom instruction and will engage in shoot/no-shoot, force-on-force realistic scenarios based on actual events that have occurred, and where their decision-making process will be explored and tested. This is not a basic firearms course, but a course that provides training for the time when use of a firearm becomes the only option.

ACADEMI instructors are all qualified military or law enforcement snipers with many years of experience in the field; student-to-instructor ratio for this course is 4:1. All topics presented during the course are necessary fundamentals of long-distance marksmanship. The instruction is detailed and comprehensive, and students will come away with a solid foundation on which to build their long rifle shooting skills for hunting or for target practice.
